Shabbat at the Center

The meaning of the Sabbath is to celebrate time rather than space… It is a day on which we are called upon to share in what is eternal in time.” – Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel

At the Jacksonville Jewish Center, Shabbat is our sanctuary in time. Whether you are seeking the soulful melodies of Friday night or the traditional intimacy of Saturday afternoon, we welcome you to join our community in celebrating the Day of Rest.

Friday Evening: Shabbat-in-the-Round

Our standard Friday evening service is filled with soulful melodies for a meditative vibe. We blend tradition and creativity, featuring both standard and contemporary melodies with the help of talented community musicians to start your Shabbat with a “mellow” and meaningful spirit.

Saturday Morning Service

Join us at 9:00 am in the Sanctuary
Our morning service follows the triennial Torah reading cycle and is the heart of our community life cycles, including B’nai Mitzvah, namings, and Aufrufs.

Alternative Shabbat Morning Offerings

Gan Shabbat (Ages 0-5)
A lively, energetic service especially for the little ones and their parents.
Mini Minyan (K-3rd)
An informal, participatory service geared toward early elementary students.
Mighty Minyan (4th-6th)
Interactive learning and games focused on the weekly Torah portion.

Saturday Afternoon & Havdalah

As the Sabbath draws to a close, join us for an intimate afternoon service and Seudah Shelisheet (the traditional third meal). We conclude with the beautiful Havdalah ceremony, wine, spices, and the braided candle, before wishing one another Shavua Tov (a good week).
