Jack F. Shorstein Memorial Lecture

Jack F. Shorstein Memorial Lecture

November 6 – 7:30 PM

Rabbi Michael Schudrich
Chief Rabbi of Poland

“Conversos in Reverse: Polish Jewry in the 21st Century”

Despite the devastation of the Shoah and four decades of oppressive Communist rule, the embers of Jewish life in Poland were never extinguished.  Since the fall of Communism in 1989, there has been a resurgence of Jewish communal life in a country thought to be a graveyard of Jewish history.  Join Rabbi Michael Schudrich, the Chief Rabbi of Poland, as he shares this amazing story of Jewish resilience, and discusses the challenges posed by the war in Ukraine, the events of October 7th, and the current state of anti-Semitism in the Republic of Poland.

The program will be followed by a dessert reception.

What is the Jack F. Shorstein Senior Rabbinic Chair Endowment?

Created in memory of Jack F. Shorstein, the Jack F. Shorstein Senior Rabbinic Chair Endowment enables our community to host speakers who focus on contemporary issues and challenges and opportunities that Jewish leaders face.

A life-long member of the Jacksonville Jewish Center, Jack Shorstein, z”l, served as the synagogue’s President and played a central role as a lay leader within the larger Jewish community to foster friendships and commitment with three of the Center’s rabbis.  Deeply devoted to the well-being of the Jewish people and perpetuation of a vibrant Judaism, his commitment to the cause of Jewish community and continuity was integral to his values and priorities.
