Raised within the Lubavitch Hasidic community, Professor Schneur Zalman Newfield left the world of ultra-Orthodoxy as a young man. A faculty member of Manhattan Community College, Newfield earned his Ph.D in sociology from New York University. He has just published a book entitled Degrees of Separation: Identity Formation while leaving Ultra-Orthodox Judaism. Professor Newfield will share his take on the accuracy of Unorthodox and the challenges of transitioning from one world to another.
